Hundreds of local children are making their own lanterns to take part in the grand parade that will launch Coastival on 13th February.
Local schools are holding sessions with artists and there will also be a public lantern making session at Scarborough library. The best individual lantern will win a £50 prize and there will also be a £100 prize for the school that makes the best big lantern.
The public session is on Saturday January 31st from 10am to 4pm at Scarborough Library and Information Centre, Vernon Road, Scarborough.

) by 9th February so that they can be judged. To be eligible for the prize, the entrants must attend the parade.
On three successive Saturdays, 24th January, 31st January and 7th February there will be the chance to join in the making of a huge Rangoli Lantern for the opening event. Sessions will be run by established artist David Yates from 10am to 4pm and will be open to anyone aged 8 to 18.
